Gothic LIterature Final Project |
Rubric |
In this final project, you will be sharing your knowledge of gothic literature. You will select a text (provided by Ms. Gossling), utilize the resources we've encountered so far in the semester to analyze the text, read and annotate a copy of the text, and provide a rationale for including this piece as an example of gothic literature. A correctly formatted works cited will accompany this project.
Task: Annotate a Story
Using the list provided by Ms. Gossling, you will select a short story to read. The stories range from 2 to 15 pages in length (remember, in literature shorter means more complicated!). After having your choice approved by Ms. Gossling, you will receive a copy to annotate. As you annotate the text, mark examples of gothic elements utilizing the articles we read in class as a guide.

Task 2: Write About The Story
After you've read and annotated the story, use the links above to guide your analysis. Your task for this 1-2 page single-spaced paper is to determine if the short story is a gothic short story using evidence from the text AND evidence from the articles above. You will need to have a clear thesis that previews your evidence, quality quotations and examples from the text, and include a proper MLA works cited for each entry.
You will turn in a hard copy of your annotation and your written work to the basket in Ms. Gossling's room. No electronic submissions will be accepted.
You will receive the last two days of class this semester to work on this project. It is due no later than 8 a.m. on Wednesday, December 17th, 2014. Absolutely no late work will be accepted for this project. Please see me if you have any questions.
